Ousmane Bâ, a French visual artist who obtained his Bachelor of Fine Arts, embarked on a transformative artistic journey after immersing himself in the culture and traditions of Japan.
Infused with the influences of his Fulani background, a traditionally pastoral and nomadic community, Ousmane Bâ’s art offers a profound reflection on the themes of harmony and inner peace. His works become a thoughtful invitation to ponder the essence of movement, our relationships with ourselves and others, and our connection with nature. In a quest for new artistic horizons, Bâ has transitioned into a blend of painting and digital drawing, an exploration aimed at capturing the elusive image of inner tranquility.
His primary artistic mediums are ink and drawing, drawing inspiration from the elegance of calligraphy and the intricate techniques of Japanese printmaking, including the ‘Moku Hanga’ wood print method. His creative sojourn in Japan led to opportunities for exhibitions in prominent Japanese galleries like Studio Gross, Fukagawa Garage, and Trunk Hotel, culminating in his inclusion in the prestigious Dakar Biennale in 2022.
At the heart of Ousmane Bâ’s artistic practice is an exploration of spontaneous body gestures, a profound and poetic focus that seeks to shine a light on bodies
often marginalized or underrepresented in the realm of traditional art. His lens is that of body positivity, celebrating the beauty and vitality of these forms.
