Didier Viodé was born in the Ivory Coast to parents from the Benin Republic. He is a painter, photographer, videographer and cartoonist. He was trained at the Institut National Supérieur de l’Art in Abidjan, Ivory Coast, then at the Beaux-Arts in Besançon, France. He was influenced by the Fluxus movement and started using cardboard, plastic and old newspapers. He is inspired by street and popular culture, politics and the media. He has worked on themes related to migration as well as the recent lockdown. His recent series “auto-portrait d’un confiné” was presented at Piasa auction house in Paris in 2020. Several of his works have been acquired by the Fondation Gandur in Geneva and will be presented at the upcoming Art Geneve 2021. His work was recently on show at 1:54 art fair at Christies in Paris. Gbèto is his first solo in Switzerland.
