Foreign Agent x Jan Michalski Prize for Literature, 2020

December 9, 2020

It has been a great privilege to be associated indirectly with the Jan Michalski Prize for Literature, 2020 edition. The laureate of this year’s competition is Mia Couto from Mozambique, considered as one of the most important writers from the continent. As a winner of the Jan Michalski Prize, he gets 50’000 CHF as well as one work of art especially handpicked for him.

This beautiful work is a pair of sculptures made by Nigerian artist Alimi Adewale and personally chosen by Vera Michalski-Hoffman at Foreign Agent in Lausanne. The heads were sculpted in Nigeria, I discovered them in Marrakech at the Mamounia during 1:54 art fair in 2020, they then travelled to Paris and Lausanne and are now ready to embark on their final journey back to Africa and Maputo to be precise. What an incredible destiny! Many thanks to the Jan Michalski Foundation for literature.
