Foreign Agent is thrilled to present A Stranger in Morocco, Nicolas Lambelet Coleman's solo show at 1-54 Marrakech. This series of figurative paintings is centered on the artist's travels through Morocco in May 2022. For several weeks, he stayed in Marrakech and Tangier while visiting towns and villages nearby. He was immediately taken by the rich tradition of design that seemed to permeate every facet of life. From the grandest buildings to the most humble dwellings, there was a devotion to beauty, ornamentation, and the expression of a unique visual culture:

" While I was a stranger in Morocco, I felt a deep affinity with the places I visited and people I met. These paintings are dedicated to the tension of this duality: a celebration of Morocco’s unique physical environment and a meditation on the limitations of existing in spaces as an outsider. By examining these themes through self-portraiture, my work is introspective while simultaneously reflecting on the nature of cultural exchange, identity, and the power of appropriation through art".
